Web3 & Identity

The Architecture of Sovereign Digital Passports: DID and Soulbound Credentials in Web3

Digital identity in Web3 has long been shackled to raw wallet addresses, which are easily discarded or traded. Sovereign Digital Passports combine W3C Decentralized Identifiers with Soulbound Tokens to establish permanent, untransferable creator provenance.

1. Beyond Speculative NFTs: The Need for Non-Transferability

Standard ERC-721 tokens represent transferable assets. However, educational credentials, copyright certifications, and governance badges lose all meaning if they can be sold on OpenSea. EIP-5192 formalizes non-transferable tokens through standard lock/unlock interfaces.

2. EIP-5192 Contract Implementation

By enforcing an immutable locked state upon minting, the credential cannot be transferred via transferFrom or safeTransferFrom, turning the token into an indelible digital achievement anchor.
